Spring and Shoots

Spring and Shoots

Mar 25, 2025Calixta Killander

Hello all,

Greetings from the farm where we’ve enjoyed some absolutely epic sunsets and sunrises recently - the later sunsets are going hand in hand with us getting busier and busier.

So much is happening all over the farm - we are flipping tunnels and doing an insane amount of spring planting. We’re sowing radishes, lettuces and herbs daily to guarantee an uninterrupted supply, so our polytunnels are full to the brim. Every single square meter has something growing in it ready for harvest over the next few weeks and then in mid to late April there's a big transition as we start planting all of our aubergines, peppers and tomatoes.

In the prop house, we've been really busy potting up crops. Our cucumbers and courgettes have been planted; we've got multiple successions, but the first ones are up and looking amazing. Loads of herbs, flowers, brassicas, kales… it's looking fabulous. In the field, our broad beans are all germinating and looking adorable, so we’re excited to have those in the next couple of months.

This week we had a lovely team out to see us from the Super 8 group. They helped us with the gooseberries in our agroforestry fields; an enormous job that takes a lot of time so it was wonderful to have them on board. We shared a delicious lunch and then did a few other jobs around the tunnels before we had a farm tour. It was great to have the team out again for the day to join us and spend some time with our own team.

In flower news, we’ve had a bit of a tulip shortage but we’re hoping they’ll be back in full flow by the end of next week and then ongoing into April. Our peonies are starting to sprout and shoot which is super exciting. Obviously we won’t have much in terms of peonies this year from our own fields because they take a few years to establish, but we'll be getting them back from a local farmer friend of ours and in the meantime it's really exciting to see ours, after the long winter, start to bud up and poke out of the soil.

Finally, don’t forget our upcoming Plant Sale on 26 April - a chance to come to the farm and get your hands on all manner of wild and wonderful baby plants, hand raised by us, for your own garden.

Best wishes,

Team Flourish
